Birthstone of the Month: Amethyst

It's February! And that means that a new birthstone of the Month! The traditional birthstone for February is amethyst.

Amethyst come from two Greek words meaning "not" "intoxicated." This grape colored stone was thought to protect against drunkenness. Throughout time amethyst has been thought to carry many protective and healing properties. It was though to keep you level headed in battle, protect against snake bites, and prevent seduction.

This stone is a type of quartz and can be identified by its purple coloring. Amethysts can range from almost colorless to deep, rich purple.

Brazil and other South American countries produce most of the world's amethyst.
